INBOUNDS
Bem vindos!
At District 1960, we welcome every exchange student with great enthusiasm and a strong sense of responsibility. We know that this experience is far more than just a trip abroad: it is the chance to study and live in a different country, discover new traditions and ways of life, build lasting friendships, and strengthen language skills that will benefit you for years to come. Above all, it is a journey of personal growth that will help you become a true ambassador of peace.
By choosing Rotary, you and your family have shown trust in the way we manage our exchange programmes. We work with commitment and integrity, guided by strong values and clear rules that ensure both the safety and quality of the experience.
Our many years of experience supporting students from all over the world have taught us that each participant is unique. Every student brings individual dreams, talents, and challenges, yet all share the potential to grow and transform during their time abroad. Our role is to guide and support this process, always respecting the individuality of each young person as well as the commitments we make to families.
In return, we expect dedication, responsibility, and openness from you, so that you can fully embrace this opportunity.
Everything has been carefully arranged to make your stay in Portugal truly rewarding. Host families, schools, Rotary Clubs, and the Youth Exchange Programme team of District 1960 are prepared to provide support, safety, and care throughout your journey. Make the most of every opportunity, and live this experience to the fullest — it will stay with you for a lifetime.

Welcome to Portugal
Portugal is a country of rich history and warm hospitality, with a population of around 10 million people. It is known for its breathtaking coastline, charming cities, and a culture that beautifully blends tradition with modernity.
The climate is generally mild, with warm summers and moderate winters. In most regions, especially along the coast, you can expect plenty of sunshine throughout the year — which is why Portugal is often described as a country of light.
Portuguese traditions are deeply rooted in community and family. From lively village festivals to the melancholic beauty of Fado music, from the colourful carnivals to the shared meals of grilled sardines and pastries like the famous Pastel de Nata, you will quickly discover that culture here is lived with passion.
Sports, especially football, play a big role in everyday life, and you’ll often find people gathering to cheer for their favourite teams. At the same time, Portugal is a land of explorers and seafarers, and this spirit of curiosity and openness is still present today.
During your exchange, you will not only learn in school and with your host family, but also through these cultural experiences that will make your stay truly unforgettable.
